Laser Dentistry

Lasers have been put to medical use for several years and are now used in state-of-the-art dentistry.  Lasers have made new dental treatments possible while improving on more traditional ones.  Lasers don't replace traditional instruments, but they help them work better and make treatement more comfortable for the patient.

Lasers are being put to many tasks in the dental office.  They remove diseased gum tissue to prevent gum disease.  They painlessly remove canker sores and help cold-sensitive teeth.  Lasers are also good at cosmetic jobs.  Laser light is used to harden white fillings and veneers to make them extra strong.  It's expected that someday soon lasers will be adapted for use in every aspect of dentistry.

 

Microscopic Dentistry

Surgical microscopes in dentistry have been widely embraced by endodontists in particular, but they are also wonderful tools for the accurate detection of tiny cracks in a tooth, or the early appearance of periodontal disease.  For general dentistry, this means that oral health problems can be detected before they have a chance to become serious conditions.  Periodontal disease has often been called the "silent disease" because it can take hold before any obvious symptoms arise.  Microdentistry allows us to see "evidence" almost as soon as the disease is present.

 

Digital Imaging
